The SRM CGPA calculator below works out your SGPA and CGPA using the SRMIST Regulations 2021 method: multiply each course's credits by its grade point, add them up and divide by total credits. Your equivalent percentage is CGPA x 10.
The rules here come from SRMIST's official B.Tech and M.Tech Integrated Regulations 2021. Other programmes and other SRM universities can differ, as explained below.
- Top grade
- O = 10 points (91-100 marks)
- Pass
- 50% of total marks (C grade, 5 points)
- SGPA
- Sum of (credits x grade points) / total credits
- CGPA
- Credit-weighted average of SGPAs
- Percentage
- CGPA x 10 (SRMIST R 8.7)
- Rounding
- 2 decimal places
SRM CGPA calculator and SGPA calculator
Add each course with its credits and grade to get your SGPA for a semester. Add the SGPA and total credits of each semester to get your CGPA. The calculator runs in your browser and needs no login or password.
This srm gpa calculator follows SRMIST Regulations 2021. If you are at SRM University Sonepat or SRM AP, set the grade points to match your own university's scale.
SRM grading system (Regulations 2021)
Regulation 8.1 of the SRMIST B.Tech / M.Tech Integrated Regulations 2021 sets these letter grades:
| Grade | Meaning | Grade point | Marks range |
|---|---|---|---|
| O | Outstanding | 10 | 91-100 |
| A+ | Excellent | 9 | 81-90 |
| A | Very Good | 8 | 71-80 |
| B+ | Good | 7 | 61-70 |
| B | Above average | 6 | 56-60 |
| C | Average | 5 | 50-55 |
| F | Fail | 0 | Below 50 |
| Ab | Absent | 0 | Did not appear |
| I | Incomplete | 0 | Insufficient attendance |
To pass a course you need at least 50 percent of the total normalised marks, counting continuous assessment and the end semester exam together (R 8.2). No separate minimum for the end semester exam is stated.
There is no "W" grade in Regulations 2021. The "I" grade, for attendance below 75 percent, takes its place. See the SRM attendance calculator to avoid it.
SGPA formula
Regulation 8.6 defines SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average) as:
SGPA = sum of (course credits x grade points) / sum of course credits in the semester
- F-grade courses are included. Their credits count in the bottom number, with 0 points on top, so a fail pulls your SGPA down.
- The result is rounded to 2 decimal places.
SRM CGPA formula
CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) combines all semesters so far:
CGPA = sum of (semester credits x SGPA) / sum of semester credits
A semester with more credits counts more. That is why a simple average of your SGPAs can be slightly different from your real CGPA. CGPA is also rounded to 2 decimals.
Worked example: SGPA and CGPA
Semester 1
| Course | Credits | Grade | Points | Credits x points |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Course 1 | 4 | A+ | 9 | 36 |
| Course 2 | 4 | A | 8 | 32 |
| Course 3 | 3 | O | 10 | 30 |
| Course 4 | 3 | B+ | 7 | 21 |
| Course 5 | 2 | B | 6 | 12 |
| Total | 16 | 131 |
SGPA = 131 / 16 = 8.1875, rounded to 8.19.
Semester 2
Say semester 2 has 20 credits and an SGPA of 8.50, which means 170 credit points.
CGPA after two semesters
CGPA = (131 + 170) / (16 + 20) = 301 / 36 = 8.361, rounded to 8.36.
Equivalent percentage = 8.36 x 10 = 83.6 percent.
The simple average of 8.19 and 8.50 would be 8.345. The real CGPA is a bit higher because semester 2 had more credits.
SRM CGPA to percentage
Regulation 8.7 of SRMIST Regulations 2021 says: "Normally CGPA score is reflected in the grade sheet." and "Equivalent Percentage of marks = (CGPA * 10)".
| CGPA | Equivalent percentage |
|---|---|
| 9.20 | 92.0% |
| 8.36 | 83.6% |
| 7.50 | 75.0% |
| 6.00 | 60.0% |
SRM's Controller of Examinations also links a separate conversion document for UG and PG 2021 regulations, but it is a scanned file. If an employer or another university asks for a conversion certificate, check that official document or ask the CoE.
Class and distinction (B.Tech)
Regulation 8.8 sets classification for B.Tech. For students who finish within 8 semesters:
- CGPA 5.0 to under 6.0: Second Class
- CGPA 6.0 to under 8.0: First Class
- CGPA 8.0 or above, with no Ab, F, I or temporary withdrawal in any semester: First Class with Distinction
- CGPA 8.0 or above, with an earlier Ab, F or I later cleared: First Class
For those finishing within 9 semesters, CGPA 5.0 to under 6.0 is Second Class and 6.0 or above is First Class. B.Tech normally takes 8 semesters, with a maximum of 12. Failed courses can be cleared through summer semester courses (R 3.5).
Different SRM universities, different scales
SRM University Sonepat (Delhi-NCR, Haryana)
SRM University Delhi-NCR, Sonepat is a separate university from SRMIST. Its official SGPA/CGPA note uses an S to F scale:
| Grade | Point | Marks |
|---|---|---|
| S | 10 | 90-100 |
| A | 9 | 80-89 |
| B | 8 | 70-79 |
| C | 7 | 60-69 |
| D | 6 | 50-59 |
| E | 5 | 40-49 |
| F | 0 | 0-39 |
Sonepat's SGPA and CGPA are also credit weighted. Its note does not state a percentage conversion, so do not assume CGPA x 10 there.
"SRM NCR" can mean SRMIST's Delhi-NCR campus at Ghaziabad (O to F scale above) or SRM University Sonepat (S to F scale). Check which one is on your grade sheet.
SRM AP
No official SRM AP grading document was found for this guide. For an srm ap cgpa calculator, use the grade points from your SRM AP Student Handbook rather than the SRMIST table.
Other SRMIST programmes such as MBA, MCA or Science and Humanities have their own regulations, so check yours.
Questions and answers
How is CGPA calculated in SRM?
Under SRMIST Regulations 2021, CGPA is the sum of each semester's credits times its SGPA, divided by total credits. It is rounded to 2 decimals.
How do I convert SRM CGPA to percentage?
SRMIST Regulation 8.7 says equivalent percentage equals CGPA x 10. A CGPA of 8.36 is 83.6 percent.
What is the O grade in SRM?
O means Outstanding, worth 10 grade points, for 91 to 100 marks under Regulations 2021.
What is the pass mark in SRM?
You need at least 50 percent of total normalised marks, continuous assessment and end semester combined. That is a C grade with 5 points.
Does an F grade count in SGPA?
Yes. Regulation 8.6 includes F-grade courses, so their credits are added to the total with 0 points.
Is there a W grade in SRM?
Not in Regulations 2021. The I grade, for insufficient attendance, is used instead.
Does this calculator work for SRM Sonepat or SRM AP?
The formula is the same credit-weighted average, but grade points differ. Sonepat uses S=10 to F=0; for SRM AP, use your handbook's scale.
