SRM Attendance Calculator and the 75% Rule

The SRM attendance calculator below tells you how many classes you can miss or must attend to stay at or above 75 percent, the minimum SRMIST requires in each course. Below 75 percent you cannot write that course's end semester exam and you get an "I" grade.

The rules here come from SRMIST's official B.Tech and M.Tech Integrated Regulations 2021. The calculator needs no login and never asks for your Academia password.

SRM attendance calculator

Enter the classes held and classes attended for one course. The calculator shows your current percentage, how many more classes you need in a row to reach 75 percent, or how many you can miss and still stay at 75 percent.

You can change the target, for example to 85 percent if you want a safety margin. The maths is the same for every SRM campus, so it also works as an srm ap attendance calculator if you type in SRM AP's own threshold from its handbook.

How SRM attendance percentage is calculated

Attendance percentage = classes attended / classes held x 100

SRMIST counts attendance course by course, not as one overall figure. You can be fine in five courses and still be short in one.

Classes you must attend to reach 75%

If you have attended A out of T classes, the number of extra classes in a row you need is 3T - 4A (round up, and if the answer is zero or less you are already safe).

Example: 28 out of 40 classes is 70 percent. 3 x 40 - 4 x 28 = 120 - 112 = 8. Attend the next 8 classes and you reach 36 out of 48, which is exactly 75 percent.

Classes you can miss and stay at 75%

The number you can skip is (4A / 3) - T, rounded down.

Example: 36 out of 44 classes is about 81.8 percent. 4 x 36 / 3 - 44 = 48 - 44 = 4. You could miss the next 4 classes and sit at 36 out of 48, still 75 percent. Missing a fifth takes you under.

Aim higher than the line. A single cancelled class, a lab counted twice or a late update on the portal can drop you below 75 percent without warning.

The 75% attendance rule at SRMIST

Regulation 7.3 of the SRMIST Regulations 2021 says a student must keep at least 75 percent attendance in each course. The 75 percent is counted exclusive of leave taken for:

  • medical reasons
  • accidents
  • on-duty (OD)
  • extra-curricular and extramural activities

The regulation says these leave categories together can add up to 25 percent. Ask your faculty advisor how approved leave and OD are recorded for your course, because the regulations do not describe a separate medical certificate procedure.

Attendance below 75%: the I grade

If your attendance in a course is below 75 percent, Regulations 7.3 and 7.4 say you are not permitted to write the end semester exam for that course, and you are awarded grade "I" (Incomplete).

  • The I grade carries 0 grade points.
  • It counts against First Class with Distinction: that honour needs no Ab, F, I or temporary withdrawal in any semester.
  • Ask your department how and when the course must be redone.

See how an I grade affects SGPA on the SRM CGPA calculator page.

Attendance condonation: the 10% cap

Regulation 7.5 allows condonation only in rare, genuine cases. A committee reviews the case and recommends it to the Dean CET. Condonation cannot exceed 10 percent.

In simple terms, condonation is not a routine fix. Do not plan your bunks around it.

Be careful with anyone who offers to "fix" attendance on the portal for money or asks for your NetID password to do it. Attendance is recorded by SRM, and your NetID password also opens your SRM email and Drive.

SRM attendance codes

Regulation 7.2 lists attendance codes:

CodeAttendance
H95 percent and above
985 to 94 percent
875 to 84 percent
LBelow 75 percent

Where to check your SRM attendance

  • Academia: SRMIST students commonly check attendance on academia.srmist.edu.in. See the SRM Academia login guide.
  • StudentConnect / JUNO Campus app: for the 2025 batch onwards in Medicine and Health Sciences, Law, Management, and Science and Humanities, the official manual lists attendance for all semesters, course wise.
  • Unofficial tools: a Chrome extension and student apps add bunk calculators, but they are not run by SRM. See SRM ERP and student apps.

SRM AP, Sonepat and other programmes

The rules above come from SRMIST's B.Tech and M.Tech Integrated Regulations 2021. Other SRMIST programmes have their own regulations, and SRM University AP, SRM University Sonepat and SRM University Sikkim are separate universities. Their attendance rules were not confirmed for this guide, so check your own handbook before relying on 75 percent.

Whatever your campus, the habit that helps most is simple: check your attendance every week, course by course, and act as soon as one course drifts close to the line. Recovering from 72 percent early in the semester takes a few classes; recovering in the last fortnight may be impossible.

Questions and answers

What is the minimum attendance in SRM?

SRMIST Regulations 2021 require at least 75 percent attendance in each course.

What happens if my SRM attendance is below 75%?

You cannot write the end semester exam for that course and you get an I (Incomplete) grade, worth 0 points.

How many classes can I bunk in SRM?

Use (4 x attended / 3) - held, rounded down. For 36 out of 44, you can miss 4 more classes and stay at 75 percent.

Is there attendance condonation in SRM?

Yes, but only in rare genuine cases reviewed by a committee and recommended to the Dean CET. It cannot exceed 10 percent.

Does medical leave count for attendance?

Regulation 7.3 counts the 75 percent exclusive of medical, accident, on-duty and extra-curricular leave, which together can add up to 25 percent. Ask your faculty advisor how it is recorded.

Is attendance counted per subject or overall?

Per course. You need 75 percent in each course separately.
