SRM Kattankulathur, usually called SRM KTR, is the main campus of SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), located in Kattankulathur in Chengalpattu district on the southern edge of Chennai. It is the original 1985 site of SRM Engineering College, the college that later grew into SRMIST.

What SRM Kattankulathur is
KTR is not a separate university. It is one campus of SRMIST, which got deemed university status in 2002 under Section 3 of the UGC Act. SRMIST's own site lists its other campus locations as Ramapuram, Vadapalani, Tiruchirappalli, Delhi-NCR and Baburayanpettai, so a degree from KTR is an SRMIST degree, the same as from those campuses.
Students often say "SRM main campus", "SRM KTR" or "SRM University Kattankulathur". All three mean this campus. The SRM group started here in 1984 to 1985 with Valliammai Polytechnic and SRM Engineering College, according to SRM's heritage timeline.
Not everything at SRM Nagar is SRMIST. SRM Valliammai Engineering College shares the SRM Nagar address but is a separate college affiliated to Anna University. See SRM group colleges for the difference.
Faculties and courses at SRM KTR
SRMIST lists six faculties: Engineering and Technology, Management, Medicine and Health Sciences, Science and Humanities, Law, and Agricultural Sciences. KTR is reported to house the engineering faculty, the College of Medicine and Health Sciences and the other main faculties.

Third-party apps such as Class Pro or SRM Helper are not run by SRM, so think carefully before giving them your Academia password.

SRMJEEE rank waivers at KTR
SRMIST's scholarships page lists the same B.Tech rank bands for KTR, Vadapalani and NCR:

- 341 to 490: 25%
The waivers cover tuition only, seats per band are limited, and the page footer says it was last updated in 2022, so check the current SRMJEEE brochure.
KTR hostel costs
The 2026-27 circular for first-year boys (B.Tech, B.Arch, B.Des, M.Tech Integrated) lists yearly totals, hostel plus mess, from Rs 1,10,000 (non-AC, 7 sharing, JA Block 2, off campus) to Rs 2,73,000 (AC, 2 sharing, N Block). Laundry is optional at Rs 7,500.
Rooms are booked through the student portal after online verification and NetID creation. You pick the block and room type, not the room number. Girls' and senior hostel fees appear in separate SRMIST circulars, not covered here. Full tables are on the SRM hostel guide.

Rankings that apply to KTR
